2020 Hyundai Kona vs 2020 Toyota C-HR

It’s no secret that crossovers have become more and more popular over the past several years, which has led to a sizeable increase in the number available across the market. A big part of that increase has, of course, been the subcompact crossover segment. It has seen a boom on the marketplace, and our Hyundai Kona was among the big new introductions. We wanted to see how it measures up to one of its competitors, so we pit it against the 2020 Toyota C-HR.

To be more specific, the Hyundai Kona was introduced for the 2018 model year while the Toyota C-HR came the same year after being teased for a couple of years. Both models have had a few years to earn their place on their respective lineups, and they certainly have.

Advantages of the 2020 Kona

When you look at the two crossovers’ specifications, they’re nearly identical to one another. Looking at their aesthetics, they obviously have plenty of differences, and the same can be said for features and content. But where specs are concerned, they’re very similar to one another, but glancing through the table we put together up above shows that one vehicle certainly has an edge.

In the first row, we looked at performance, in which the 2020 Kona offers three horsepower more than the C-HR. That’s not a very big difference but it is an advantage in the Hyundai Kona’s favor, as is the extra mile per gallon it gets in terms of combined fuel economy across highways and city streets. Even its cargo area gives it a very slight advantage, though admittedly it’d be difficult to notice 0.1 cubic feet of difference.
