The hottest segment on the market today is without a doubt the subcompact crossover class. Each year a handful of new models crop up and add even more depth to the increasingly popular segment, and both Hyundai and Nissan were a part of that this year. Hyundai introduced the Kona while Nissan introduced the Kicks, and we thought we’d see how the two measure up to one another by comparing the 2018 Hyundai Kona vs 2018 Nissan Kicks.
The Nissan Kicks has yet to be released, so many of its specifications have yet to be announced. But we dug up which specs we could and put together the table below. Underneath it we’ll go through row by row to analyze the differences and similarities between them.
2018 Hyundai Kona |
vs |
2018 Nissan Kicks |
---|---|---|
147 HP | Horsepower | 125 HP |
132 lb-ft. | Torque | 115 lb-ft. |
30 mpg | Combined Fuel Efficiency | ~33 mpg |
5 | Seating Capacity | 5 |
Obvious right out of the gate, the Hyundai Kona is the more powerful of the two brand-new subcompact crossovers. The Nissan Kicks gives up 22 horsepower and 17 pound-feet of torque, which might not sound like much but would definitely be a noticeable advantage in an on-road comparison.
Of course, the drawback to having superior power is often giving up a bit of fuel efficiency. That appears to be the case here, as the Nissan Kicks is estimated to deliver 33 miles per gallon combined. Keep in mind, though, that’s just an estimation. The final number could be less than that, lessening its advantage as well.
All the final row shows is that both crossovers have space enough for the same number of passengers. If you’d like to find out more about what the 2018 Hyundai Kona has to offer, feel free to browse the rest of our website or schedule a test drive right here on this page via the button below!
