2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport vs 2018 Kia Sorento

In 2007, as the Hyundai Santa Fe entered its second generation, it got remodeled to fit into a bigger class. Originally, it was a compact crossover, but its second generation slated into the midsize category. A few years later, as the crossover entered its third generation, Hyundai realized that while the Santa Fe was doing great in the midsize segment, it needed to recapture its glory in the compact segment as well. And thus, the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport was born. The compact crossover segment is a steep one, filled with great options. But even a compact crossover like the Santa Fe Sport can step above its weight class and duke it out with a larger vehicle. That’s why we thought we’d see how it measures up to a midsize crossover like its big sibling, by pitting the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport vs 2018 Kia Sorento.

Advantages of the 2018 Santa Fe Sport

The table above takes a look at a few of the most important specification to consider in a comparison like this, and as you can tell the Santa Fe Sport certainly holds its own against the larger Sorento. The first two rows analyze power and efficiency respectively, and the midsize Sorento doesn’t have a leg to stand on in either as the Santa Fe Sport matches it horse for horse, and mpg for mpg. Of course, the Sorento does have one advantage over the Santa Fe Sport: cargo capacity. It’s not hard to believe that the Sorento would offer more space, as it’s a larger vehicle. But the fact that the Santa Fe Sport holds it to an advantage of just 3.4 cu. ft. is fairly impressive in its own right. And despite being smaller, the Santa Fe Sport can still comfortably fit just as many passengers as the Kia Sorento. If you don’t need as much space as the Sorento has to offer, consider getting the same power and efficiency in a smaller vehicle with the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport!
