2019 Hyundai Kona vs 2019 Toyota C-HR

The Hyundai Kona was the first in the recent string of brand-new and all-new crossover utility vehicles that Hyundai has been releasing. The most recent were the Palisade and Venue, but the subcompact Kona started it all. We wanted to highlight once again just how well it measures up to one of its biggest segment competitors by pitting the 2019 Hyundai Kona vs 2019 Toyota C-HR. Both of these subcompact crossovers are relatively young, having come out during the segment’s boom. The Hyundai Kona was introduced in 2017, a year before the Toyota C-HR joined its own lineup. Both small crossovers offer plenty of space inside despite their small size, and they’ve both quickly made an impact on the market.

Advantages of the 2019 Kona

If there’s anything that the table above made truly clear, it’s that these two vehicles are incredibly comparable to one another. Let’s make our way through the table row by row to really take everything in. We started things off in the first row with horsepower, in which the Kona does have the edge but only by a hardly noticeable three horsepower. The only thing that does prove the Kona is more powerful than the C-HR is the second row, which has the biggest gap in the table. The Kona weights 410 pounds less than the C-HR, which is a hefty different that means the Kona doesn’t need as many horses to have a superior weight-to-power ratio. The third and fourth row go back to extremely small advantages, though they do both favor the Kona as well. The Hyundai crossover gets an extra mile to the gallon on average across the highway and through city streets, and it offers an extra 0.2 cubic feet of space in its cargo hold. Neither of these advantages would be particularly obvious to the casual driver, but they’re advantages nonetheless.
