2020 Hyundai Kona vs 2021 Kia Seltos

In 2017, Hyundai got a jump start on their pledge to introduce a host of new utility vehicles over what would be the next couple of years. Now that that pledge has been fully realized, the 2020 Hyundai Kona remains one of the most popular crossover options on the brand’s lineup. But the fast-growing subcompact crossover segment hasn’t finished growing yet, as the upcoming 2021 model year will see Kia finally join the party as they introduce their new Seltos. We thought we’d get a head start on seeing how these two segment rivals fare against one another.

Advantages of the 2020 Kona

You don’t have to study the table too closely to see just how similar these two subcompact crossovers are to one another, though it also becomes clear that each has its advantages – unfortunately, one more than the other. In the first row we highlighted power, an aspect in which the Hyundai Kona technically reigns supreme. We say technically because 1 horsepower would hardly be a noticeable advantage even to the most scrutinizing eye. The Seltos gets its hand raised in a similar fashion in the second row, which shows the Kia crossover’s advantage of 1 mile per gallon combined. While that might lead to a very small amount of savings in the long run, you’d hardly notice it. However, the Seltos does seem to offer a much larger cargo area, as seen in the third row. It offers an extra 7.4 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats to fill with whatever you need. The fourth row simply shows that both are two-row crossovers withs eating for up to 5. Although the Kona does give up that extra cargo space, there are plenty of other advantages to purchasing the 2020 Hyundai Kona, such as Hyundai SmartSense, Shopper Assurance, Owner Assurance and more.
