2020 Hyundai Venue vs 2020 Kia Soul

Hyundai has put for a huge effort expanding their lineup of utility vehicle over the past few years, in keeping with the trends of the greater marketplace. Considering the incredible growth of the subcompact crossover segment, the company’s engineers thought it prudent to make something similar but perhaps even smaller. So, the subcompact Hyundai Kona is no longer the entry-level crossover for the lineup, as the 2020 Hyundai Venue slates in even lower in a segment known as the mini-SUV class. Without much competition in this new segment, we thought we’d see how the Venue measures up to the vehicle that might be the most similar to it despite classifications, by pitting its against the 2020 Kia Soul.

Advantages of the 2020 Venue

Some people consider the Kia Soul a subcompact crossover, some consider it a hatchback sedan, some just call it a wagon. That might make it the most direct competitor the Hyundai Venue has. As you can see in the table above, they’re certainly quite comparable to one another. In the first half we took a look at fuel economy ratings. On the highway, the Hyundai Venue does achieve an extra two miles per gallon, though they both achieve the same fuel efficiency through the city. That gives the Venue a leg up and might save you some pocket change at the pump, but it’s not a huge advantage. Similarly in the second half, we looked at performance. The third row highlights that the Venue gives up 26 horsepower to the Kia Soul. That’s not a huge advantage either, and it’s cut even further by the fact that the Venue weighs 387 pounds less than the Kia Soul, as the fourth row depicts. Essentially, if looking exclusively at specifications, you can choose between a slight increase in fuel economy or a slight increase in power. However, there is much more to these vehicles than just specs. Regardless of the fact that the Hyundai Venue is an entry-level crossover, it’s packed full of great content and standard features, including Hyundai SmartSense!
